Overview of Role

The Vice President, Mergers & Acquisition’s role spans the full mergers and acquisitions (“M&A”) process, including financial modelling, due diligence support and management and other investment banking activities. The VP leads transactions from LOI through close, taking ownership of deal execution once the LOI has been executed, managing outside advisors, coordinating internal and external workstreams, and mentoring junior deal team members. The VP is a key member of the Professional Services Group (PSG) and works closely with portfolio company leadership. The position may be based in our Saskatoon office or performed remotely.

Key Responsibilities

Transaction Handoff

  • Partner with the origination team to ensure a disciplined handoff of deal context, stakeholder relationships, diligence priorities, gating items, and outstanding issues to the PSG group.

  • Develop the transaction execution plan and confirm internal resources, external advisors, budgets, timelines, approval requirements, and closing milestones.

Transaction Execution

  • Run deal processes from LOI through closing, including timelines, workstreams, and stakeholder communication.

  • Ensure strong financial models covering valuation, returns, capital structure, and sensitivity scenarios.

  • Coordinate due diligence within the PSG group and across third-party advisors, including financial, legal, commercial, tax, HR, and operational workstreams.

  • Act as project manager to ensure effective communication and management of transaction scope, cost, and deliverables.

  • Negotiate key deal terms and complete the drafting and review of purchase agreements and other transaction documents.

Portfolio Support

  • Partner with the PSG Integrations team for effective integration planning and handoff at transaction close.

  • Contribute to 100-day plans and post-close value-creation initiatives.

Team leadership

  • Mentor and develop junior M&A team members, reviewing their work and building their deal skills.

  • Contribute to firm processes, transaction execution management, and continuous improvement of our M&A playbook.

Qualifications

Required

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in private equity, investment banking, or transaction advisory.

  • A track record of leading or co-leading completed M&A transactions from LOI through closing, ideally in the lower-to-middle market.

  • Strong working knowledge of due diligence, purchase agreements, and acquisition financing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.

  • Experience supervising and developing junior team members.

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

Preferred

  • CPA, CFA, or MBA.

  • Deal experience across multiple industries.

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing external advisors through complex transaction processes.

  • Experience with founder-owned businesses and succession-driven transactions.
